The 6 Pillars of Sanatan-Dharma
(The Eternal Religion)
“For the benefit of all living beings”
- Truthfulness – Always speak the truth, never break vows, never betray anyone, no corruption, no bribes, and always be loyal.
- Compassion – Don’t give pain to any living being.
- Austerity – Live a simple life and develop a service-to-all attitude.
- Cleanliness – Keep the body, home, and public places clean.
- Charity – Give for the benefit of others.
- Spiritual Education – Study and follow the Shrimad Bhagavad-Gita and Shrimad-Bhagavatam.
“Cultivation of spiritual knowledge, charity, austerity, truthfulness, compassion for all living entities, cleanliness… – these transcendental qualities, O son of Bharata, belong to godly men endowed with divine nature.”
– Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 16.1–3
“There is nothing more sinful than untruthfulness. Because of this, mother earth once said, ‘I can bear any heavy thing except a person who is a liar.’”
– Shrimad-Bhagavatam 8.20.4
