Caste Systems in Religions

“Based on the scriptures and not what people think or heard or hope”

Holy Bible

(Christianity)

Al-Quran

(Islam)

01

The Bhagavad-Gita divides humanity into four classes, based on the qualities developed and work performed by a person. Not based on birth or religion.

Brahmin - Priestly Class

Ksatriya - Administrative Class

Vaisya    - Business Class

Sudra     - Laborer Class

The Bible divides humanity into two castes, based on the religion a person is born into.

Believers of Jesus (High Caste) - Christians

Unbelievers (Low Caste) – Non-Christians

Al-Quran divides humanity into two castes, based on the religion a person is born into.

Believers of Allah (High Caste) – Muslims

Unbelievers (Low Caste) – Non-Muslims

02

All individuals from the four classes have an equal opportunity to progress in spirituality. So, whether it is a Brahmin conducting Deity worship or a Sudra cleaning the floor of a temple, both are equally valuable in their service to God.

Based on the Bible, the non-Christians are condemned or destined for hell, regardless of their righteous actions. However, if a non-Christian decides to convert, they will be saved from hell.

This implies that people like Mahatma Gandhi, who promoted peace and non-violence, has gone to hell since he was not a Christian. While Christians who do not live a righteous life will go to heaven. Also, the God of the Bible intentionally creates non-Christians so that they will eternally suffer in hell, because most of the non-Christians will not convert. Can such a God be called just, merciful, and loving?

Based on Al-Quran, the non-Muslims are sent to the hell fire, regardless of their righteous actions. However, if a non-Muslim decides to convert, they will be saved from the hell fire.

This implies that people like Mahatma Gandhi, who promoted peace, non-violence, and supported the Muslims, has gone to hell since he was not a Muslim. While Muslims who do not live a righteous life will go to heaven. Also, the God of the Quran intentionally creates non-Muslims so that they will eternally suffer in the hell fire, because most of the non-Muslims will not convert. Can such a God be called just, merciful, and loving?

03

No matter what class one belongs to, everyone has the potential to attain love of God and achieve liberation.

Eventually every soul goes back to Vaikuntha, the spiritual world, where they will eternally live a blissful life in a spiritual body. This wonderful destination is made possible by the boundless mercy and love of Lord Krishna, as every soul is an inseparable part of Him.

Based on the Bible, only the Christians can go to the Kingdom of God or heaven. The non-Christians are sent to hell eternally.

Before 2,000 years ago, there was no possibility of following Jesus and Christianity, because it did not exist. So, did the billions who lived before 2,000 years ago, all went to hell through no fault of their own? And what about all those who live beyond this planet?

It is cruel to create people and demand them to follow a particular religion otherwise torture them for eternity. Such a creator cannot be called all-knowing, loving, and merciful.

Based on the Quran, only the Muslims can go to heaven. The non-Muslims are sent to the hell fire eternally.

Before 1,400 years ago, there was no possibility of following Islam, because it did not exist. So, did the billions who lived before 1,400 years ago, all went to the hell fire through no fault of their own? And what about all those who live beyond this planet?

Based on logic, sin means hurting people or animals. Sin to the God of the Quran is disbelieving in him. Would a true God who is self-sufficient and unlimited be so desperate to be known and worshiped?

Sanskrit:

cātur-varṇyaṁ mayā sṛṣṭaṁ
guṇa-karma-vibhāgaśaḥ…” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 4.13)

English:

The four divisions of human society are created by Me, and the division is based on quality and work.

“If one shows the symptoms of being a brahmaa, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra, as described above, even if he has appeared in a different class, he should be accepted according to those symptoms of classification” (Shrimad-Bhagavatam 7.11.35)

“If one was born in a brahmana family and has acquired the brahminical qualifications, he is to be accepted as a brahmana; otherwise, he should be considered a brahma-bandhu [not a brahmana]. Similarly, if a sudra acquires the qualities of a brahmana, although he was born in a sudra family, he is not a sudra; because he has developed the qualities of a brahmana, he should be accepted as a brahmana…” (Purport by Swami Srila Prabhupada, Shrimad-Bhagavatam 7.11.35)

“Brahmaas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras are distinguished by the qualities born of their own natures in accordance with the material modes, O chastiser of the enemy.

Peacefulness, self-control, austerity, purity, tolerance, honesty, knowledge, wisdom and religiousness – these are the natural qualities by which the brahmaas work.

Heroism, power, determination, resourcefulness, courage in battle, generosity and leadership are the natural qualities of work for the ksatriyas.

Farming, cow protection and business are the natural work for the vaisyas, and for the sudras there are labor and service to others.

By following his qualities of work, every man can become perfect. Now please hear from Me how this can be done.

By worship of the Lord, who is the source of all beings and who is all-pervading, a man can attain perfection through performing his own work.”

(Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 18.41-46)

It is very clearly stated by Lord Krishna in 18.45, that every man can become perfect by performing work that is based on his qualities or abilities.

The purpose of the varna system (Vedic class system) is not to make people low or high, but to ensure efficient functioning of society by assigning people for roles based on their qualifications and abilities.

Every organization in the world uses the Vedic class system to fill their positions. People are assigned to a position based on their qualifications and abilities.
