Genuine people are very rare.

  • It is 100% false to think that all good people belong to one religion or one community or one nation.
  • It is 100% false to think that all bad people belong to one religion, or one community, or one nation.
  • It is 100% false to think that all vegetarians are good.
  • It is 100% false to think that all meat eaters are bad.
  • It is 100% false to think that all religious people are good.
  • It is 100% false to think that all atheists are bad.

Even among the gurus or preachers, there are many who are expert speakers, expert in scriptural knowledge, and expert in dress code. But their personal behavior is very bad.

Just because someone is expert in reciting the scriptures, it does not mean that they are also following the teachings. Not following what one speaks about means ignorance and untruthfulness.

“The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Fearlessness; purification of one’s existence; cultivation of spiritual knowledge; charity; self-control; performance of sacrifice; study of the Vedas; austerity; simplicity; nonviolence; truthfulness; freedom from anger; renunciation; tranquillity; aversion to faultfinding; compassion for all living entities; freedom from covetousness; gentleness; modesty; steady determination; vigor; forgiveness; fortitude; cleanliness; and freedom from envy and from the passion for honor – these transcendental qualities, O son of Bharata, belong to godly men endowed with divine nature.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 16.1-3)

“Pride, arrogance, conceit, anger, harshness and ignorance – these qualities belong to those of demoniac nature, O son of Pṛtha.”  (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 16.4)

“There is nothing more sinful than untruthfulness. Because of this, mother earth once said, “I can bear any heavy thing except a person who is a liar.” (Shrimad-Bhagavatam 8.20.4)

The following are some of the bad or demoniac qualities:

  • Untruthfulness – Breaking vows, misleading others, making false statements etc..
  • Disobedience – Not obeying the parents, seniors, scriptural injunctions etc..
  • No humility – Thinking oneself to be high and looking down on others etc..
  • No service to all attitude – Expecting service from others but not giving service to others etc..
  • Miserly – Not being generous according to ones capacity.

Reality of Today

  • When we have money and good health, everyone pretends to be our friend, but when we have no money or good health, nobody wants to know us.
  • When we have plenty, everyone pretends to be our friend, but when we have nothing, nobody wants to know us.
  • When we are young and healthy, others will take service from us, but when we are old or diseased, they will abandon us.
  • We can spend a lot of time and effort on helping people, but when they think they have achieved their goals, they will kick us.
  • People will use us, but they will never let themselves be used by others.
  • When we don’t need help, everyone will gather around us and ask if we need any help. But when we need help, nobody will be around.
  • There are many sweet talkers, but very few who take sweet actions.
  • We can feed someone everyday for 50 years, but if we miss a day or we stop feeding them. They will vomit on us.
  • We can feed many people, many times, but when we are in need, nobody will even look at us.

Conclusion

  • One good friend is better than a thousand average friends. We should strive to become a good friend to everyone.
  • Despite others being bad, we should never be like them.
  • Others may treat us badly, but we should always treat others nicely.
  • Others may cheat us, but we should never cheat anyone.
  • Others may mislead us, but we should never mislead anyone.
  • Others may give us pain, but we should never give pain to others.
  • Others may lie to us, but we should never lie to anyone.
  • Others may betray our trust in them, but we should never betray anyone.
  • Others may not serve us, but we should try to serve everyone.
  • Others may take advantage of us, but we should never take advantage of anyone.
  • Others may use us for their own advantage, but we should never use others.
  • Others may be self-centered, but we should never become self-centered.
  • Others may set bad examples, but we should always set good examples.
