Compassion is a very important quality that a pure devotee has.
Based on Srimad-Bhagavatam
“…These four legs of powerful religion are truthfulness, mercy, austerity and charity.” (SB 12.3.18)
“In the age of Satya [truthfulness] your four legs were established by the four principles of austerity, cleanliness, mercy and truthfulness…” (SB 1.17.24)
Based on the Bhagavad-Gita and Arjuna
“When the son of Kunté, Arjuna, saw all these different grades of friends and relatives, he became overwhelmed with compassion and spoke thus.” (BG 1.27).
“Saïjaya said: Seeing Arjuna full of compassion, his mind depressed, his eyes full of tears, Madhusüdana, Krsna, spoke the following words.” (BG 2.1)
“Compassion for all living entities…- these transcendental qualities, O son of Bharata, belong to godly men endowed with divine nature.” (BG 16.1-3)
We all should further develop the quality of compassion towards all living beings.
