“Even a man of knowledge acts according to his own nature, for everyone follows the nature he has acquired from the three modes. What can repression accomplish?” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 3.33)

It’s doesn’t matter how much knowledge a person has, because people can have a lot of knowledge but corrupt understanding. It doesn’t matter how many times they have been to Temples/religious places. It doesn’t matter how many austerities they perform. It doesn’t matter how many pujas/worship they perform. They will act according to the nature they have developed. For example, there are many people who look religious and engage in many religious activities, but they will still lie or cheat or treat others badly. Being religious does not mean a person will become a better human being, because people have developed a certain nature which they will not change or give up. It is not the fault of religion, because the teachings of the religious scriptures like the Bhagavad-Gita very clearly mention to be truthful, caring and treat everyone with kindness.

“The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Fearlessness; purification of one’s existence; cultivation of spiritual knowledge; charity; self-control; performance of sacrifice; study of the Vedas; austerity; simplicity; nonviolence; truthfulness; freedom from anger; renunciation; tranquillity; aversion to faultfinding; compassion for all living entities; freedom from covetousness; gentleness; modesty; steady determination; vigor; forgiveness; fortitude; cleanliness; and freedom from envy and from the passion for honor – these transcendental qualities, O son of Bharata, belong to godly men endowed with divine nature.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 16.1-3)

“Pride, arrogance, conceit, anger, harshness and ignorance – these qualities belong to those of demoniac nature, O son of Pṛthā.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 16.4)

It is personal ego that makes humans develop a bad nature which results in bad behavior. The personal ego is developed by associating with the wrong crowd, which in turn results in lack of proper knowledge and corrupt understanding.

A real friend is one who always gives you good guidance. A friend who gives no guidance or says nothing when you do something wrong is your worst enemy. By associating with people who who give no guidance, you waste valuable time and develop a bad nature.

A genuine Guru is one who always gives you good guidance, and dispels your ignorance by answering your questions. A Guru who does not give guidance or does not answer your questions is useless. Such Gurus waste your valuable time and you develop a bad nature due to lack of knowledge and proper understanding development.

In our lives we need to acquire knowledge and proper understanding to develop ourselves. We need to know what is wrong and what is right. This is what develops our nature. No knowledge means we get stuck with what we know and do not develop our consciousness for the better. For example, some people consider killing animals as good and some consider it as bad. This all depends on the nature developed by the person. From my own example, I was a meat eater living in the UK, but when I came across a devotee and she told me to go vegetarian, because it was wrong to kill. I listened to her and changed my nature. It was due to lack of proper knowledge that I was a meat eater. The devotee girl gave me good guidance and I changed my nature for the better.

By good association, anyone can change their nature for the better. By bad association, even for a moment, one can ruin their whole life.

No knowledge expansion results in expansion of narrow mindedness.

Anyone who reads the posts on this site will have a good chance of developing a good nature. This is the mission of this site.
