What does it mean to be humane and inhumane.

• To love all living beings is humane. To hate or be envious of any living being is inhumane. Thus hatred towards others who are different is inhumane. To eat animals is inhumane, because even the animals want to live, and they also have feelings. Only the Bhagavad-Gita and other Vedic scriptures teach that all living beings are brothers and sisters and thus we should not hate nor eat any of our brothers and sisters (Bhagavad-Gita 14.4).

“Ayam bandhurayam neti gananā laghuchetasām, Udāracharitānām tu vasudhaiva kutumbakam”

“One is my brother and the other is not – is the thinking of a narrow-minded person. For those who are broad-minded, liberals, or noble people, the entire world is a one big family.” (Maha Upanishad: Chapter 6, Verse 72)

‘Ayam nijah paroveti gananā laghuchetasām, Udāracharitānām tu vasudhaiva kutumbakam’

“This is my own relative and that is a stranger” – is the calculation of the narrow-minded; for the magnanimous or generous hearts, however, the entire earth is but a family” (Hitopadesh: 1.3.71)

• Free will is given by God and anyone who takes away the free will of others are inhumane. Thus freedom of religion is the right of everyone. Those who do not allow freedom of religion are inhumane. Freedom of thought and expression are also part of free will. Thus those who disallow freedom of thought and expression are inhumane. Only the Bhagavad-Gita teaches that we all have free will and thus we all have the right to free thinking and expression. After Lord Krishna spoke the Bhagavad-Gita to Arjuna, He allows him the freedom to practice it or not, without cursing him (Bhagavad-Gita 18.63).

• To curse others a life of hell just because they follow a different path is inhumane. People are different and thus based on the consciousness developed, people will follow different paths. Only the Bhagavad-Gita teaches that one evolves into a particular kind of faith based on this development (Bhagavad-Gita 17.1-4).

• To be concerned for the well being and well fare of all living beings is humane. To be selfish, concerned only for oneself or for ones community is inhumane. Only the Vedic scriptures teach that one should be concerned for the well being and welfare of all living beings.

• Slavery is completely inhumane, and sex slavery is barbaric. Only the Vedic scriptures do NOT advocate slavery and the Vedic followers have NEVER enslaved others. The non-Vedic followers have a history of making humans into slaves and even sex slaves. The non-Vedic scriptures very clearly advocate slavery, including making women into sex slaves.
